WELCOME TO FONTAINHAS

Fontainhas is a beautiful heritage neighbourhood located in Panjim, Goa. It has houses built around the 19th century and is marked as a conservation area by the government.

The location houses the St. Sebastian chapel and guest houses mostly in heritage homes. Before this location was converted into a residential area, it was a coconut grove known as Palmar Ponte. It is called Fontainhas because of a fountain that exists at the far south-end of the neighbourhood.

GUIDE FOR TOURISTS VISITING

  • Please be mindful that this is a residential locality where actual people live. We would like you to visit, learn about the area and go back respecting the culture of the place.

  • Please do not play loud music, scream, shout and dance. These are residential homes with young children and senior citizens who want to live their normal lives. Walk to the sides, and do not block traffic.

  • Respect local sentiments and listen to residents in the area. Do not enter homes if you see a door ajar (yes, it has happened) or jump into balconies uninvited. Please also avoid posing for photos with your foot on the walls, even if you are rich enough to afford a paint job.

  • There is no entry fee to visit the area. So we are not dependent on your visit to survive.

  • You are advised to take only authorised tour guides with you. Several young, misinformed, 'start-up tour guides' are conducting walks in the area - a lot of the information provided is factually incorrect. You are best guided by a govt-registered tour guide

  • There is restricted parking in the area; walking/cycling is preferred and appreciated. Do not park in private parking spots or in a way that blocks doorways, gates, pathways

  • Flying of drones without police clearance/order is not allowed. Please keep the clearance/permission order with you at all times and produce it when asked for by residents

  • Please take your garbage back with you. Do not litter the area.

  • Lastly, be respectful. Residents are appreciative of visitors/tourists who are mindful of those who live in the area. Avoid being an obnoxious person - tourist or otherwise.
